Player of the Match: Hunain Shah
Hunain Shah (POTM): "(His thoughts before bowling the last over) Thanks to the almighty. I was just telling myself to believe. Cricket is a game where anything can happen. I was thinking if Faheem bhai gets out, we can win. I just believed and it happened.

(On his conversation with Marnus Labuschagne) I told him I am going to bowl only yorkers and we will keep a straight field. After that, what happens what happens.

(On the journey of his team in PSL 2026) It feels great. We lost 4 matches at the start. It takes time to get the combination right. But after that, we got a new hero in every match. That has been the secret of our success."
Shadab Khan (Islamabad United Captain): "(Was death bowling the concern today?) Yes, once again today our death bowling made us pay the price. We also made a few errors in the field and all of that causes these small margin losses.

(On the batting performance in the chase) Yeah, we had starts but no one could carry on and bat through the innings. My wicket also fell at the wrong time and every time we had some sort of momentum built, a wicket would fall. I also think we could have read the situation better in the last over with the bat to track those 6 runs down.

(On the overall tournament) Yes, the tournament as such was a wonderful one. Sameer played so well for us right through the tournament. Chapman was exceptional and we all know how much he loves to play against Pakistan and in Pakistan. I think, the three spinners we had in our team also bowled well throughout the tournament in tandem. Yes, we are disappointed in not making it to the finals, but it is what is and the better team deserves to reach there."
Marnus Labuschagne (Hyderabad Kingsmen Captain): “(On the win) I don’t have words to describe what we’ve done today. This team — we’re definitely providing entertainment. At one stage, it looked like we were going to win comfortably, then suddenly we weren’t. Then it felt like it was over — like we should pack our bags and go home. And then Hunain Shah comes in and defends six in the last over, conceding just three, to win the game — with only four fielders out. It’s unbelievable.

(On his team) I can’t describe what we’ve just done or how far we’ve come as a team. I’ve got goosebumps just talking about it. The ownership, the belief, the trust they’ve shown in selecting every individual — even when it might not have made sense to people on the outside — it’s all paying off. Every player has stepped up and shown their skill throughout the tournament.

Take Usman Khan, for example — he struggled for about eight games, and then suddenly he produced 66 off 30 on a two-paced pitch where we thought 170–180 would be competitive. That was an outstanding innings. And then the bowlers, once again, getting those breakthroughs in the powerplay. They’ve been fantastic all tournament.

(What was he thinking in the last over?) We’ve spoken about this before, but even when Hunain had an expensive over earlier, I just felt that moment was building. In a way, it was perfect — having only four fielders out made things simpler. The plan was clear: keep everyone straight and try to execute six yorkers.

Honestly, I don’t know what more to say. It was the perfect storm, and it’s finally come together."

Do you believe in fairytales? If you're a Hyderabad Kingsmen fan, the answer might be a resounding 'yes'. They lost four on a trot to begin their campaign, then bounced back to win four in a row, before getting all out for 80 against Islamabad United and putting themselves in a pickle. In their final league stage game, they needed to win big to correct their net run rate and they did.

Before the knockouts, they had never won in Lahore. Now they have done it twice. To say that tonight, against Islamabad United, they snatched victory out of the jaws of defeat will be no hyperbole. Defending 6 runs off the final over in modern T20 cricket is no mean feat. Kingmen march into the final of PSL 2026.

Of course, the final huddle won't be easy to cross. They will lock horns with Peshawar Zalmi, who have only dropped one game in the entire season and are in red hot form. But then, never have Labuschagne and co. had it easy. Despite that they are here.

Who knows what will happen in the final on Sunday, May 3. But one thing is for sure. We will be there to call the action. For now, this is the quarter of Darpan Tikiya, Mohammad Anab, Manan Mehta and Zeeshan Naiyer signing off. See you soon!
