7:48 PM IST, Local Time: It has started raining at MA Chidambaram Stadium and the umpires call for covers. The players are going off the field. The groundsmen rush in with covers. The pitch and the entire square is covered now. Let's hope it is a passing shower.

8:40 PM IST, Local Time: No update from the venue. Looks like it is still raining. The waiting game continues.

9:45 PM IST, Local Time: Good news, folks. The rain has stopped and the groundsmen are slowly removing the covers. The match has been reduced to 13-overs per-side. It will restart at 10 PM IST/Local Time. 

10 PM IST, Local Time: The groundsmen are trying hard to dry the outfield. The restart time has been pushed to 10:15 PM IST/Local Time. It will now be a 11-overs per-side contest. The powerplay will be of 3.2 overs.

10:14 PM IST, Local Time: And guess what, just as we were getting close to the restart time, the rain has returned. The groundsmen quickly bring in the covers.

10:46 PM IST, Local Time: And yet again, the rain has the final say. The Eliminator of Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2026 has been abandoned due to rain after only three overs of play. VIDA Kovai Kings progress to the next stage and will face Trichy Grand Cholas in Qualifier 2, due to their superior position on the points table compared to iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans. Defending Champions iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans have been knocked out of the competition. 

What a shame. Yesterday’s Qualifier 1 was abandoned due to rain, and today’s Eliminator has met the same fate. Certainly not what the fans would have hoped for at this stage of the tournament. You have to feel for iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, who have now been knocked out without getting the opportunity to fight it out on the field. But that’s cricket — these things are part and parcel of the game. They can at least console themselves with that thought as they bring their campaign to an unfortunate end.

VIDA Kovai Kings will face Trichy Grand Cholas in Qualifier 2 on August 26. Hopefully, the rain gods will show some mercy in that game. It's time to conclude our coverage as well.
