1:20 AM IST, 8:50 PM Local Time: An unbeaten 66 off 33 balls from Nicholas Pooran has helped the Northern Superchargers to stay in contention of the finals as they defeat the Manchester Originals by 7 wickets in a thrilling encounter at Old Trafford, Manchester.
Superchargers won the toss, decided to field first with Phil Salt all guns blazing hit 61 off 28 balls but failed to find support from any other batter. What looked like a chase of over 200 was contained down to 152/7 with the spinners led by Mitchell Santner executing the brakes.
Fazalhaq Farooqi started with 10 balls conceding just 2 runs and picking up Matthew Short early. Ben Stokes suffered a hamstring injury and was retired hurt soon after.
The powerplay fetching just 23 runs against the Originals' 73. Skipper Harry Brook joined Ollie Robinson at the crease and displayed some intent. Scott Currie on the 36th ball removed the struggling Robinson on the first ball he delivered bringing the A-pair of NickyP and Brook at the helm.
The duo added 56 runs for the 3rd wicket. Brook scoring 43 in 26 balls with 4 fours and 2 maximums. Usama Mir (1/14), Tom Aspinwall (0/17) and Currie (1/26) applying the brakes in the middle overs after dismissing Brook.
But it was Pooran who held his nerve and smashed the bowlers all over the park to finish unbeaten with 2 fours and 8 hits out of the park. Adam Hose supported him well at number 6 scoring an unbeaten 27 in 14 balls with 1 fours and 2 maximums, finishing the game off with a biggie.
With the thumping win, the Superchargers take the third spot on the points table and remain in contention for a place in the next round. Manchester Originals with just 1 win in the season so far are already ruled out.
