What an exciting finish to the London Derby here although London Spirit slump to yet another defeat. This is their fifth loss in seven matches. Oval with a fine two-wicket win with five balls to spare. Defending 147 for victory, Roelof van der Merwe gave them the ideal start as he removed Jason Roy and Sunil Narine cheaply. Colin Ingram didn't stay for long either as he dragged a Brad Wheal delivery as Oval slipped to 14-3
Despite the early wickets, Will Jacks took the attack to the opposition while Sam Billings was looking to settle in. Mason Crane didn't allow Billings to make it big as the leg-spinner removed him for just nine runs. This is when Laurie Evans came in and stitched a match-winning 57-run partnership. Evans, in particular, was a treat to watch as he went inside-out repeatedly against Van der Merwe. The duo kept the pressure on by targeting David Wiese too as the medium-pacer was taken for 20 runs off his ten balls.
Ravi Bopara eventually got rid of Will Jacks but Oval only required a little over a run a ball at that point. Just when everything looked plain sailing, Blake Cullen removed Alex Blake with a searing yorker before Brad Wheal castled Tom Curran. London Spirit sneaked in slightly by running out Saqib Mahmood too but Laurie Evans held his nerve and smashed Cullen's last ball for a maximum to seal the match.
Laurie Evans has been named as the 'Man of the Match' for his unbeaten 67-run knock
Laurie Evans: Very good. It is nice to get running in the tournament, lot of guys have been putting in performances, so nice to finally arrive. I take pride in finishing games of cricket and that's what you can do. I had to get the last one away, I missed out on a few full-tosses and Toppers [Topley] calm head at the other end just said smack it. Home advantage is huge and thanks everyone for coming out. It is great to see the tournament thrive.
