The Southern Brave Women keep themselves alive in the Women’s Hundred 2024. They beat the Oval Invincibles Women by seven wickets to keep their title defence alive. In a rain-curtailed fixture, the Brave Women emerge victorious to grab their first win of this edition.
Chasing a revised DLS target of 83, Danielle Wyatt and Smriti Mandhana opened for the Southern Brave Women. Wyatt played some lovely strokes upfront. Mandhana was run out on two in the third set. Maia Bouchier hit three boundaries and scored 16 before getting cleaned up. It was a short stay for Freya Kemp as she fell on three.
Wyatt continued playing her strokes at the other end and found boundaries. She made sure that she kept the required run rate under control. She received good support from Chloe Tryon. The Invincibles Women managed to take the game to the last set. With six required from the last set, the first three balls yielded only two runs. Wyatt held her nerves and hit a maximum to take her side across the line with seven wickets in hand. Wyatt and Tryon remained unbeaten on 46 and nine respectively as the Brave Women win the game by seven wickets.

Alice Capsey came out all guns blazing and scored 19 off 12 balls before holing out in the deep. Skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill was struggling to get going and was joined by Marizanne Kapp.
The pair of Winfield-Hill and Kapp were rebuilding the innings before the rain arrived. After a long delay, the match was reduced to 65-balls per side. Winfield-Hill scored a scratchy 23-ball 17 before falling in the 10th set. Paige Scholfield departed on a golden duck. Kapp and Amanda-Jade Wellington remained unbeaten on 26 and nine respectively as the Invincibles Women finished their innings on 79/4. Danielle Wyatt (Hero of the Match): "No, I was pretty relaxed out there. Yeah, obviously, Ryana bowled really well and followed me closely. I always knew that if we took it deep and I played smart at the other end, we'd have a good chance.
So yeah, I’m just buzzing to finally get over the line. It's been a tough campaign for us, but that’s how it goes in this short format of the game. Hopefully, we can finish strong.
I mean, obviously, we have our strategy meetings, and we study the opposition, etc. We just want to go out there, entertain, and play our best.
We've had a really successful few years, so I guess a bad season was bound to happen eventually. But yeah, the big moments just haven't gone our way, and that’s part of this format. So, we just have to keep going and stay positive."
