For the Pakistan Blues, Hasan Ali and Sufiyan Muqeem were the wreckers-in-chief. Muqeem removed both Shamyl and Ghulam and dented the middle order in his third spell to end with 4/37 in his 10 overs. Hasan Ali swept off the Gold's tail and ended with 4/32. Arafat Minhas played a perfect second fiddle with his 2/36.
Kamran Ghulam recovered from his early struggle and got his fluency. He was going well after completing his fifty but mistimed an innocuous half-tracker of Sufiyan Muqeem to find the fielder. Losing two set batters was a big blow per se and the situation was exacerbated for the Gold as none of their batters, batting beyond number 5, got double-digit scores. Haider Ali was running out of his partners and eventually perished scoring 44 off 53. Khawaja Nafay, Abdul Samad, Imran Randhawa, Mohammad Nawaz- everybody failed to arrest the collapse and Gold succumbed to 212.
Shaheen Afridi, the Pakistan Gold skipper opted to bat first despite knowing that under lights, bowling will be tougher. His openers, Shamyl Hussain and Saad Khan went at over run-a-ball in the first 4 overs. Akif Javed was erratic with his lines and magnanimously gifted boundaries. Hasan Ali jolted the Gold by removing Saad Khan (9) and Shamyl became more circumspect afterwards. He and Kamran Ghulam stitched a 75-run partnership together, where Ghulam got off to a cautious start. Shamyl got to his fifty in 45 balls and was dismissed in the 47th ball at exactly 50.
11:12 PM IST and 10:42 PM Local Time: Pakistan Blues start their journey in this National Cup 2026 with a victory over Pakistan Gold. Their skipper Sahibzada Farhan rose to the occasion as his hundred remained a decisive factor in the game. Earlier, the Gold were dented in the middle overs by Sufiyan Muqeem and Hasan Ali, who triggered a collapse. Blues have chased the 213-run target with 50 balls to spare and by 6 wickets.
Shaheen Afridi (Pakistan Gold Captain): "(On what went wrong with their batting) I think our batters tried, were unlucky, gave wickets away off bad deliveries. This is the time to learn, and that is the purpose of this tournament.

(On what they could have done better) The way the wicket was, could have scored bigger, could have converted the fifties into a 70-80 or a 100-plus score. Need to build the innings mentally.

(On talks with the team on recovery after loss) For us, it is more important to learn than win in this tournament. Winning or losing is part of the game, but the purpose of this tournament is to learn and contribute to Pakistan cricket.

(Reason behind batters failing to convert starts) Given the heat here, mentally it is tough. There's the fitness aspect too. The heat is immense, the boys are suffering from cramps as a result. They need to be mentally ready for these."

Sahibzada Farhan (Pakistan Blues Captain and Player of the Match): "(It is extremely hot here but it didn't seem that much with the way you played) If I say the weather is not hot, it will be a lie. It is a challenge for us to play cricket in this weather but there are benefits as well. You have to keep fighting with the boys. Yes, it is challenging but I want to take it on a positive note.

(On the surface) I think our bowlers made it easy for us. This target is chasable in One Day but you have to get yourself some time in the middle as a senior. You have to perform accordingly.

(As a captain, what do you want to say about Sufiyan Muqeem and Hasan Ali? Are you satisfied?) Yes very much! I told you that the bowlers made it easy for us. But they also had some top bowlers of Pakistan. Boys deserve the credit for the fight they put up.

(Do you think the trend of chasing team winning will continue here because of the weather?) We have back to back matches. We will try to recover fully. Let it be batting, let it be bowling, we have to play."
That takes us to the end of the live coverage of the 2nd match of the National Cup 2026. Riding on a couple of brilliant spells from Sufiyan Muqeem and Hasan Ali, Pakistan Blues restricted the Pakistan Gold to 212 in the first innings. Sahibzada Farhan's valiant century propelled the Blues to a comfortable victory by 6 wickets and with 50 balls to spare.
Pakistan Blues will come back again tomorrow. Despite the scorching heat, they will have to play another game in less than 24 hours time against the Pakistan Whites, who succumbed to a defeat against the Pakistan Greens in the inaugural game of the tournament. The first ball will be bowled at 3:30 PM IST and 3 PM Local Time. Do join us for the action.
For now, this is Saptak Sanyal, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Rajarshi Das and the scorer/analyst of this game Sachin Yadav. Good night!
