10:41 PM IST, 22:11 Local Time: After facing a humiliating 3-0 defeat in the T-20I series, South Africa Women bounced back stronger and made a bold statement in the first ODI, winning by 127 runs to go 1-0 up in the ODI series. A poor batting display by Pakistan Women in front of their home crowd.
Earlier, after deciding to bat first. The "Momentum Proteas" lost three early wickets batting first but they didn't let the Pakistani Women to take away the "momentum" from them. Nashra Sandhu had drawn the first blood as she got the wicket of Brits who was looking well set. It was followed with two quick wickets of skipper Woolvardt and Goodall and suddenly the Proteas were in a lot of trouble.
Sune Luss and Marizanne Kapp joined forces at this stage and they put together one heck of a partnership. It was an outstanding display of grit, resolve and determination in some testing conditions . It was a 183 run partnership that included a lot of intent and class. There was some very swift running between the wickets combined with a touch of finesse by the two veterans as they tore apart the web spun by the Pakistani tweakers. Kapp reached her 100 first and it was an incredible knock under pressure. She departed soon after though but her partner Luss carried on as she was joined by De Klerk at the crease.
The duo upped the ante in a timely fashion and managed to score at a brisk pace. With Luss visibly tiring and suffering from cramps a bit it was De Klerk who it took it upon herself to play the big shots and she cleared the boundary quite a few times. She remained unbeaten on 28 in the end as the Proteas reached a mammoth 292 runs batting first and they also broke the record for the highest score in WODI's at the National Stadium Karachi.
The Pakistani bowlers started off on a really positive note, as they got three wickets in no time. Nashra Sandhu got the first scalp as she trapped Brits in front of the wicket. This was followed up by the wicket of Skipper Woolvardt, which was a soft dismissal while Aliya Riaz got rid of Godall. From there onwards things didn't go in their favour as they failed to break the partnership between the two veterans, and they went from strength to strength. The only seamer Diana Baig was also quite expensive and couldn't take a wicket. Sandhu got rid of Kapp in the 44th over but the damage had already been done by that time.
In pursuit of the Proteas' 292 runs, Shawaal Zulfiqar and Sidra Ameen spearheaded the innings for Pakistan Women, and the duo played sensibly for the first five overs. However, their progress was halted by Ayabonga Khaka, who clean-bowled Zulfiqar for 7 runs, halting the 23 runs opening stand. Bismah Maroof joined Ameen at number three but failed to find her footing in the middle, falling prey to Nadine de Klerk for 10 runs. Following the wicket of Maroof, Pakistan lost a few more wickets in a jiffy and were reeling at 65/5 at the end of the 17th over.
Aliya Riaz and Sidra Nawaz started the rescue work for the hosts and kept the scoreboard ticking at a decent pace. However, their budding partnership was halted as Nawaz fell prey to Nonkululeko Mlaba, departing for 18 runs. Aliya played sensibly and completed her 1000 runs in the ODI, becoming the 8th Pakistani Woman to score 1000 ODI runs. Aliya continued to impress with the bat but she didn't get any support from the other end as the wicket kept tumbling around her and eventually, Pakistan were bundled out for 165 runs, with Aliya remaining unbeaten on 49 runs.
Nadine de Klerk and Nonkululeko Mlaba shone with the ball for Proteas Women and bagged three wickets, while Ayabonga Khaka and Delmi Tucker contributed one wicket to Pakistan's downfall.

Marizanne Kapp (Player of the Match): "We didn't start off the way we would have liked. The run rate was up and we tried to get our eyes in and we looked to attack after that. It's an easy wicket to bat on if you can get yourself in but one can't go swinging from ball one. It's a really proud moment for me but we can't forget the contribution of Sune Luss as she took a lot of pressure off my shoulders and my innings wouldn't have been possible without her."
Nida Dar has been awarded a shield for her achievement of playing 100 One Day Internationals.

Yeah, definitely we will sit together and we'll plan better and I guess we are looking forward to the next two games. I think the batter should have taken the responsibility for that and still I'm betting them inshallah they will come back stronger.

Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa Women Captain): "Today was a really good game of cricket. We've been playing good cricket in patches and it was about putting those phases together. Sune and Kapp played excellent cricket. We got ourselves into a little pickle early on but the partnership set us up for a big total. They were patient in the beginning and didn't take too many risks. Kappy and Luss accelerated at key junctures and it made the real difference for us. They perfectly timed the partnership. "
