7:53 PM IST, 3:23 PM local time: The hosts have steamrolled the Dutch. They have not just won this game, but dominated it. They get off to the perfect start in this series. And given that we are just about a fortnight away from the start of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026, this victory must feel that much more sweeter for Scotland Women. They win by 9 wickets and with 31 balls to spare.
Add to that: this was the first international match they were playing at home in 4 years. Also, they had not beaten Netherlands Women in this format since 2024. A healthy crowd gathered at The Grange to witness this performance of theirs and Kathryn Bryce and co. made sure that they got their money's worth.
The start was not great. They lost the toss and were asked to bowl first on a pitch that seemed like a batter's friend. Heather Siegers seemed on a mission to make the most of it too. The Dutch opener scored a scintillating 16-ball-32, riding on which Netherlands raced to 47/1 in 4 overs, which saw 10 boundaries. It was the Scotland skipper who, having conceded 17 runs in her first over, bounced back to dismiss Siegers and thus, began the downhill slide. They went from 47/1 in 4 overs to 78/5 in 10.2.
Scotland continued to rotate their bowlers around making sure that the batters did not settle against anyone in particular. Left arm spinner Kirstie Gordon — who has playing her first international since 2019 — returned the best figures of 3/27. While wickets were falling like a pack of cards from one end, Robine Rijke (44-ball-46) held the other. In Frederique Ovverdijk (23-ball-22), she even got an able ally for sometime. The duo stitched a 53-run stand for the 6th wicket that helped Netherlands reach a respectable score of 141/8 in 20 overs.
However, it turned out to be a walk in the park for the home team. Darcy Carter stole the limelight with a riveting knock of 55 (37), during which she scored 8 fours and a six. Her ball-striking was clean and powerful, and the running between the wickets an icing on the cake. In addition to it, she also grabbed three catches in the first innings. Meanwhile, Katherine Fraser played second fiddle to her in the 100-run opening partnership and switched gears post her dismissal. She finished with 56* (41) in addition to her 1/19 (4 overs) with the ball. Kathryn Bryce, who came out to bat at number 3 scored an effervescent 12-ball-23* to guide the team over the finish line.
There was not much to talk of Netherland's bowling. Overdijk was the lone wicket-taker. Isabel van der Woning had a nightmare-ish outing. She delivered just one over, which included a no-ball and four wide balls in addition to 4wd. That over, the 5th of the innings, yielded 29 runs and the Dutch never really recovered from it.
