11:25 PM IST, 19:55 Local Time | Deepak: A brilliant comeback by South African bowlers after being pummeled by the Australian openers but the Proteas bowlers held their nerve and bundled out Australia for 227 runs, winning the game by a massive margin of 111 runs to keep the series alive.
Earlier, after being invited to bat first, South Africa got off to a solid start. Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma found their footing in the middle, and the duo went on to forge 146 runs for the first wicket. De Kock played a scintillating knock of 82 runs off 77 balls, while Bavuma contributed with a well-composed 57 runs off 62 balls. Hendricks chipped in with 39 runs. But the crowning jewel of this innings was Aiden Markram, who electrified the entire stadium with his batting prowess and went on to notch up his century in the last ball by smashing a boundary. Markram remained unbeaten on 102 runs. And let's not forget the late fireworks provided by Marco Jansen, who played a mesmerizing cameo of 32 runs off just 16 balls, helping South Africa post a hefty 338 runs at the end of 50 overs.

In pursuit of a hefty 338 runs, Australia got off to a rollicking start as both their openers, David Warner and Travis Head, came out all guns blazing and started the carnage in the first powerplay. However, Sisanda Magala trapped Head for 38 runs and ceased the 79-run opening partnership. Warner paired up with skipper Mitchell Marsh and continued to pummel the bowler to the left, right, and center of the field as they managed to reach the 100-run mark inside the first powerplay. The pair added 61 runs for the second wicket, and Australia were looking in total control of the match, but Shamsi had other plans for them. The chinaman trapped skipper Marsh for 29 runs and provided a much-needed breakthrough for the hosts.
Warner continued his merry ways and went on to notch up his half-century in style. However, he failed to convert it into a three-digit figure, losing his wicket in the form of a run out for 78 runs. The wicket of Warner proved to be the turning point in the game as it triggered a massive collapse and they lost a flurry of wickets in a jiffy, which included the wicket of the man in form, Marnus Labuschagne (15 off 16), Marcus Stoinis (10 off 12), and the wicket-keeper batter, Alex Carey (12 off 23). The spin duo of Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj ran through the Australian batting and put the visitors in deep waters, which was followed by the havoc of Gerald Coetzee, who was spitting fire with the ball and dismantled the lower order of Australia in a jiffy. Australia lost their last 8 wickets for just 87 runs, and eventually, they were skittled for 227 runs in 34.3 overs, falling 111 runs short of the target.

Mitchell Marsh (Australia Captain): "Yea look, credit to South Africa to come back strong and the score shows 2-1. I probably thought 290-300 was par. Misread the pitch a bit as there was a lot more turn. Markram batted well, showed his class today, and batted us out of this game. A lot of learning here, In the last 12 months we have made a lot of improvement, and hope we get better. Couldn't see that much turn at the start of the game."
Aiden Markram (Player of the Match): "It felt great to contribute to the team today, and keep this series alive. To deliver a performance like this as a team builds up a lot of confidence. It was a tough pitch to bat on as the ball stopped and turned a lot, and it's always about learning on the job on a track like this. I wasn't fluent for the first 10 balls, but I stuck around and batted through till the end which was good for me and the team. In the final over I was thinking about that hundred and swung hard at every ball, and glad that it was meant to be and I am happy how things turned out."
Temba Bavuma (South Africa Captain): "Yeah, happy with the end, happy with the result. Like you said, we needed a positive one to keep the series alive and we've been able to do that. I think there were a lot of positives in today as a team. I think we'll obviously have a conversation around the powerplay to see how best we can navigate ourselves there, but I think after that we were very good first.
I think we had two occasions where we went bang, bang. We lost two wickets consecutively and I think that kind of killed our momentum a bit. But I was thinking around 320- 330 would be possible.
Yeah, I think the experience is quite an excuse, to be honest, I think the guys have got on a proper cycle as to what to expect when it comes to those challenges, and maybe other countries as well are going to be doing the same thing. All those guys have played in the T20 so far in the Magala, so I think the experience is there. It's all about learning as quickly as you can. I think that's what international cricket challenges you. You need to learn as quickly as you can. We obviously thank ourselves and our fast bowlers. I think today when we saw the conditions, we haven't seen conditions like these where we felt that we could go with our two frontline spinners and that's it. And that's the call that we made. So to see them partner together, not forgetting Aiden as well, played a critical role with that new ball up front, I think that was a massive positive for us. So we're always looking for that versatility. When conditions allow, we're able to attack with our spinners. Yeah, the series is still set up. I think, to be honest, as long as we keep improving as a team, I think we've gone one notch up in terms of our standard of play in the next game, putting the results aside, we want to keep raising that bar."
