11:18 PM IST and 7:48 PM Local Time | South Africa Women have dominated the England Women to start the ODI series with a victory by a margin of 6 wickets and with 70 balls remaining.
Coming to bat earlier in the day, England lost Sophia Dunkley cheaply. Tammy Beaumont and Heather Knight built a partnership between them but Tammy got out for 11 and Nat Sciver-Brunt soon followed her getting out for a bronze duck. Danielle Nicole Wyatt-Hodge got out for 11 and England were 4 down for just 50 on the board. However skipper Heather Knight carried the innings forward with wicketkeeper Amy Jones. Jones departed for 21 but a while after her dismissal, England lost Knight for 40 off 63 balls.
Charlie Dean and Sophie Ecclestone then carried the innings forward and helped their side to recover from dire straits. They registered a 67-run partnership between them where Sophie scored only 17. The lower order didn't sustain for England as Lauren Bell and Lauren Filer failed to add runs on the board and give the required support to Dean. Dean remained unbeaten on 47 as England Women got wrapped up for just 186.
For Proteas, Marizanne Kapp and Annerie Dercksen took 3 wickets each. Nonkululeko Mlaba took 2 wickets and Nadine de Klerk chipped in with a wicket.
South Africa were off to a flying start as they took 18 runs from the first 2 overs. Unfortunately Tazmin Brits got out in the 3rd over and Sune Luus started to struggle. Laura Wolvaardt on the other side was watchful and in that phase, England bowlers put a restriction on the runs. Luus got out for 7 but Annerie Dercksen gave the fightback with her 40-ball 27. Marizanne Kapp was also going well but her innings didn't sustain. She scored a run-a-ball 22 to score 3 fours and a maximum and later was adjudged the player of the match.
The equations changed when Nadine de Klerk came to bat. Laura was watchful throughout her stay as she remained unbeaten on 59 from 114 balls with 7 boundaries. Nadine was in some mood today and she hit 11 boundaries on her way to score 48 and she took just 28 balls to reach there. She hit the winning shot that went to boundary.
For England Women, Lauren Bell, Lauren Filer, Charlie Dean and Nat Sciver-Brunt took a wicket each.
Stay tuned for the post-match presentations.
