1:40 AM IST and 10:10 PM Local Time: South Africa Women win by 6 wickets! They win the series 2-0 with one match to go! They have outplayed Pakistan completely! Laura Wolvaardt accompanied by her bowlers sealed the deal. Pakistan could not play the shortened version of the game the way it should have been and they collapsed to the pressure.South Africa won the toss and elected to bowl first. We had a lot of rain to start with. The game was delayed by 2 hours and the playing conditions were reduced to 14 overs per side. Muneeba Ali started the game with a boundary off the first ball. However, post that everything looked very agricultural from the Pakistani women.
Too many slogs. Too many swings and misses and no batter could hold fort for long. Only Alia Riaz in that entire batting line up got to 20. If you are wondering how Pakistan still got to 100, it was a lot to do with South Africa being sloppy in the field.
Too many misfields, then overthrows and a few wides as well. The pacers bowled with fine precision. Ayabonga Khaka and Masabata Klaas got 5 wickets between themselves. Eventually Pakistan ended with 100/9 in 14 overs. It looked pretty below par with the wicket being a good one to bat on.
The chase started off on a bang for the South Africans. Both Tazmin Brits and Sune Luus attacked the pace bowlers. They raced to 34 at the end of the 4.1 overs of powerplay. However, the introduction of spinners, slowed things down and brought 3 wickets as well.
Sadia Iqbal bowled with great accuracy and kept it very tight. She got rid of both the openers and Tuba Hassan knocked over Dane van Niekerk. However, Laura Wolvaardt's unperturbed presence out there made sure the pressure never mounted on the batters.
She batted like a million dollars! Her 40 not out off just 29 balls in the chase made sure South Africa chase the total down with balls to spare. The pick of the bowlers for Pakistan was Sadia Iqbal with 2-15! Good win for South Africa and they have secured the series!
