10:09 PM IST, 5:39 PM Local Time: The London Spirit women are off the mark in their first game of the season defeating Southern Brave by 6 wickets thanks to a match winning captain's knock from Heather Knight.
Spirit won the toss and opted to bowl first restricting Brave at 151/6 with Danni Wyatt scoring 59 off 35 deliveries and Erin Burns claiming 2/6 in 10 balls.
Opener Meg Lanning struggled to get going in the chase and fell for 12 to 16-year-old Tilly Corteen-Coleman (1/39) on the 14th ball. Cordelia Griffith was run out with Georgia Redmayne turning her back after calling for a single.
Redmayne scored 45 in 31 balls and held the innings together with skipper Knight who joined at the fall of second wicket and scored an unbeaten 65 in 31 balls hitting 9 fours and a maximum in her match winning effort.
Charli Knott (1/26) picked up a wicket alongside Corteen-Coleman with some exceptional economic bowling from Lauren Cheatle (0/19) and Lauren Bell (0/23). The in-form England and London Spirit skipper was unstoppable and despite the bowling effort which almost tilted the game in Brave's favor won the game for the London based side with 3 balls to spare.
