1:05 PM IST, Local Time: That’s it. Sri Lanka emerge victorious in the second T20I. They beat Pakistan by 6 wickets to seal the series with a game to go. A comprehensive victory for the hosts and they take an unassailable lead in the three-match series.
Chasing 176, Sri Lanka lost Imesha Dulani (5) cheaply in the second over. Skipper Chamari Athapaththu led the charge and scored at a brisk rate. She raced to 40 in just 15 balls before holing out in the deep in the final over of the powerplay. Post her departure, Sanjana Kavindi pressed on the accelerator.
Pakistan’s bowlers failed to keep a check on the scoring rate as the hosts kept cruising in the run chase. Kavindi scored a quickfire 24-ball 46 before falling in the 11th over. Vishmi Gunaratne was dismissed on 31 before the pair of Harshitha Samarawickrama (37*) and Kavisha Dilhari (14*) provided the finishing touches to the chase.
Umm-e-Hani picked up two wickets for Pakistan, conceding 28 runs in her four overs but overall, it was a disappointing effort from them with the ball and as a result, they failed to defend the total.
Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first. They got off to a flying start, thanks to skipper Muneeba Ali and Shawaal Zulfiqar who came out all guns blazing. Both added 68 in the powerplay. Muneeba (45) and Zulfiqar (48) put 90 between them before both fell in a quick succession.
Sri Lanka did pull back things by sending back Ayesha Zafar (8) and Saira Jabeen (16) cheaply but Pakistan finished on a high, thanks to a fine cameo from Eyman Fatima (30* off 19). They scored 46 runs in the last four overs as they posted 175/5 on the board.
For the hosts, Chamudi Praboda (2/27) picked up two scalps whereas Sugandika Kumari (1/37), Chamari Athapaththu (1/32) and Kavisha Dilhari (1/29) picked up a wicket apiece. The batters then stepped up and chased down the total in just 17.4 overs to seal the series with a game to go.

Muneeba Ali (Pakistan Women Captain): "[Thoughts on the game?] Yeah, obviously, target was good like last match. In fielding, we had a lot of lapses. In the bowling side as well, they will have to learn what to bowl on these kinds of surfaces against different oppositions.
[Was her wicket the turning point?] After six overs to 20th, we only scored 100 and something. Not only my wicket but I think that score could have been more. We would want to rectify those things.
[Areas to improve before the next game?] Obviously, fielding is a big part in T20 game. We need to be a bit quicker and be aggressive in the field or else, any score can be achieved by any team."

In this T20I series, the bowlers and everyone did their job. Lot of series coming up. We want to play good cricket.

From the ODI series to the T20Is, Sri Lanka have simply outplayed Pakistan in home conditions and have been the better side across all departments. With this victory, they have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the T20I series. The final match of the series will be played on Tuesday here in Dambulla. Pakistan have plenty to ponder over and will need to address several areas quickly if they are to finish the tour on a positive note and avoid a series whitewash.
