1:36 AM IST & 9:06 PM Local Time: A commanding performance from Surrey as they completely outplay Middlesex in this contest. Surrey seal a thumping 8-wicket victory with 35 balls to spare.
Earlier in the evening, Surrey won the toss and opted to chase. Middlesex lost both their openers Max Holden (12) and Adam Rossington (20) inside the powerplay. Josh De Caires (9), Ben Geddes (1) and skipper Leus du Plooy (8) fell on single-digit scores. Ryan Higgins (27) and Luke Hollman steadied the ship for the visitors with a 47-run sixth-wicket stand.
Surrey bowled beautifully in the death overs and denied Middlesex a strong finish. Hollman top-scored with unbeaten 31 as Middlesex finished their innings on 130/7. It was a complete bowling performance from Surrey, with Jordan Clark (2/31) and Sean Abbott (2/16) picking up two scalps apiece for them.
In reply, Surrey made a composed start to the chase with Jason Roy and Will Jacks assessing the conditions early before cashing in on anything loose. The opening pair added 38 runs and ensured there was no early pressure in pursuit of the modest target. The stand was eventually broken in the fifth over when Tom Helm knocked over Jacks for a brisk 24 off 17 balls.
From there, Roy and Ollie Pope took complete control of the contest. The pair stitched together an excellent 74-run partnership off just 44 deliveries for the second wicket, effectively putting the chase beyond Middlesex. Roy looked set for another half-century but fell just short, departing for a classy 46 off 31 balls.
Sam Curran remained unbeaten on 7, while Pope carried on till the end and completed a fine half-century. He remained unbeaten on 51 off 33 deliveries and sealed the victory with a boundary as Surrey cruised to an emphatic 8-wicket win with 35 balls to spare.
