SMF won by 5 wickets
10:26 PM IST and Local Time: SoBo Mumbai Falcons win by 5 wickets! This has been a clinical performance with both bat and ball for the Falcons. They overpowered their opposition comfortably and now have taken a huge step into the playoffs. Contrastingly for the Triumph Knights, this tournament has not been kind. They lose their third game on the bounce and now will have to win everything in addition to depending on other results.

The SoBo Mumbai Falcons won the toss and elected to bowl first. They bowled brilliantly well in the powerplay and reduced the Triumph Knights to 29/2 with both openers back in the hut. Suryakumar Yadav looked like his vintage best as he got the batting innings back on track with a 24-ball 48. On a tacky wicket, he used his feet really well and also pulled out the sweep on a regular basis.

He stitched a 56-run stand with Nutan Goel and got the score to 75 before a peach of a delivery from Yash Dicholkar knocked over his off stump. One brought two and two brought a third as the Triumph Knights slipped to 93/5 inside 15 overs with two more middle order batters failing to create an impact.

A certain amount of recovery was made after Nutan Goel found the fence on a couple of occasions. He pushed the score to 122/5 before the stand with Makarand Patil broke. He himself was dismissed in the next over for 34 with the score slipping further to 123/7. A few late order hits from Minad Manjrekar pushed the score to 147/8 in 20 overs. The pick of the bowlers for the Falcons was Prathamesh Dake for his 4-30 in his 4 overs.

The chase was always going to be dependent on the first powerplay. The Falcons got to 49/2 in the first powerplay. Yes, they did lose two wickets but some timely hits from Aditya Tare and Gautam Waghela made sure that the side stays ahead of the required and the pressure never mounts on them.

With a chase so small, Falcons just needed one player to bat through the innings and take them over the line. It was the newly appointed India T20I Captain, Shreyas Iyer who stepped and scored a fantastic 61(36) to kill the chase. He smashed some really good strokes all across the ground and the hallmark of his knock was how early he read the length against the spinners. He had different partnerships of 33 and 25 with Gautam Waghela and Harsh Aghav.

However, the partnership that followed these two pushed the Triumph Knights well out of the game. He stitched a quickfire 44 of just 25 balls with Awais Khan with the latter nailing a couple of lusty blows as well. Eventually the Falcons crossed the line with 5 wickets left in the hut and 20 balls to spare. The pick of the bowlers was Hitesh Kadam for his 2-34. Apart from that no one threatened the batters.
Suryakumar Yadav (Triumph Knight Mumbai North East Captain): "(On the loss) I feel we were 20-30 runs short. With only 140 on the board, you need to have a good powerplay with the ball. We could have batted better in the second half of the first innings but as I always say there is something to learn out of every game.

(Did he enjoy his own knock?) Absolutely, this is the way I bat. I have batted like this for the last 5-6 years. This is my template in the format. I love batting at Wankhede so you can say I have found myself.

(On the messages he was passing onto his team) Firstly, I feel this event is for the local boys who work so hard for 8 months in club cricket and the maidaans. They need to bring their A game out. There were around 21000 people there in the stands to watch them. So they need to understand the situation of the game better and read it well. That is what I was trying to explain to them.

(Could the bowlers have done something different?) I think that the total was a small one. The bowlers could not really do much with it. You need wickets in the powerplay as I said. I feel Shreyas batted really well and took the team home in great fashion. With a total so small, you need one batter to carry through till the end, and he showed all of us who to bat on this surface."
Time for the Post-Match Presentations...
Stylish player of the Match: Prathamesh Dake
Player of the Match: Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer (POTM): "(What was different today?) Yes, I made a minor change in my mindset. I wanted to stay till the end and get the team over the line. I was more flamboyant back in the day. I was attacking a lot earlier. I still do attack but now I do it with a lot of maturity.

(Was the pitch tricky?) Yes, I realised that the wicket was two paced. It was spinning as well. I just wanted to rotate the strike. I felt Hitesh Kadam was bowling tremendously well. So, I planned to see off his overs and target the other bowlers if they bowl anything in my area.

(On his team) Sensational. I would say there are so many brilliant talents in my team. Everyone wants to perform well. You could see today as well that people were driving around and showing that level of energy on the field. Their energy rubs off on me as well."
Aditya Tare (SoBo Mumbai Falcons Captain): "(On the back-to-back wins) Yeah I mean it's important in this competition to have momentum with back-to-back victories. We spoke before the match as a group about how important it is to win today and glad to get the result in our favour.

(On the wicket) I think when I was batting the wicket was pretty good. Though I had a word with Shreyas and he said that when the ball got older it started spinning and it was not that easy. Yes, he did hit those sixes, but it was nice to see him rotate the strike so easily and keep his composure.

(A word on Shreyas Iyer) Yeah, this knock shows his class. He is our bankable player. We know if we are in trouble he can bail us out and that is just his class."
Another long and entertaining day at the Mumbai T20 league comes to an end. The evening promised to be a cracker of a match as the current India T20I skipper, and his predecessor were in opposite teams. The match may not have been that close eventually, but the crowd got their money's worth as they saw both Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav bring out their best with the bat.

On this note, I, Manan Mehta would like to take your leave on behalf of my colleagues Utsav and Ashok Dayma. B-byeee!!!
