12:45 AM IST, 8:15 PM Local Time | Deepak: A humiliating defeat for Welsh Fire, as they are thumped by 9 wickets with 41 balls to spare. Southern Brave move to number three on the points table while Welsh Fire drop down to the fourth spot.
Earlier, after being invited to bat first Welsh Fire were bundled out for a mere 87 runs in their 100-ball quota. They lost wickets right from the word go and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Stevie Eskinazi was the top scorer for Fire as he held his wicket from one end and scored 38 runs off 34 balls. Tymal Mills wreaked havoc with the ball at the cue end of the innings and became the second male cricketer to scalp a hat-trick of wickets in The Hundred. George Garton chipped in with three wickets, while Craig Overton and Fisher contributed two and one wickets, respectively.
In pursuit of Welsh Fire's paltry 87 runs, Southern Brave got off to a rollicking start as Finn Allen unleashed his inner beauty from the word go and scored at a rapid pace in the rainy conditions. Allen departed for 31 runs off 22 balls and forged a 53-run opening partnership with Devon Conway.
Conway (35* off 25) continued his onslaught and paired up with Leus du Plooy (17* off 12). The pair kept batting in a similar fashion and took Southern Brave over the line with 41 balls to spare.
David Payne was the only bowler to celebrate a wicket for Welsh Fire. Welsh Fire need to work on their strategy ahead of the upcoming games.
