The pendulum swung from one way to another and in the end, it is Trent Rockets who have held their nerves to win the game by 4 runs and keep their hopes alive. The home team were in the game till the end. But they couldn't get over the line in the end.
Chasing 153 for the win in 100 balls, Welsh Fire lost Jonny Bairstow early. Eskinazi scored 25 off 23 balls. Joe Clarke held the innings together with his 54 off 34 balls and fell in the end. Skipper Tom Abell scored 32 off 20 balls and looked good out there. Glenn Phillips scored a good cameo of 12 off 5 balls. Van der Merwe had some fun out there in the middle. But it was a bridge too far as Welsh Fire ended with 148/6 in 100 balls. 7 extras were given by the fielding side.
The bowlers of Trent Rockets held their nerve under pressure. Daniel Sams picked up 2 wickets for 35 runs in 20 balls. Ish Sodhi picked up a wicket and gave away 29 runs in 20 balls. The debutant Andrew Turner held his nerve and picked up a wicket giving away 22 runs in 20 balls. There were a few run outs that happened in this innings.
Earlier in the game, Trent Rockets put into bat first lost early wickets. Dawid Malan fell for 10 while Alex Hales went early. Joe Root scored 14 while Tom Kohler-Cadmore missed out as well. But the innings was revived by Colin Munro who scored a breath-taking 66* off 35 balls and remained unbeaten till the end. Samit Patel chipped in with 16 off 14 balls while Daniel Sams chipped in with 17 runs. 19 extras by the fielding side also helped the total as the Rockets ended with 152/6 in 100 balls.
The bowlers of Welsh Fire were good in patches. David Willey was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up a couple of wickets for 15 runs in 15 balls. A couple of wickets for Jake Ball as he gave away 26 runs in 20 balls. Roelof van der Merwe did pick up a couple of wickets but went for plenty as he was clobbered for 44 runs in 20 overs as Munro took him to the cleaners. All in all, a great game of cricket to be a part of.
