After losing to London Spirit in their previous game, they bounce back and beat Welsh Fire comprehensively by 8 wickets to retain their third spot in the points table. The Fire suffer their first loss at home this season.
Chasing 130, the Rockets got off to a rapid start. Beth Mooney came out all guns blazing and powered her side to 50/0 at the end of the powerplay. Sophia Dunkley (15) at the other end played the role of a second fiddle before falling on the 40th ball as the 73-run stand was broken. In walked Nat Sciver-Brunt at number three.
Mooney kept going strong and brought up her fifty in just 27 balls. She holed out in the deep after scoring 57 off 35. Skipper Ashleigh Gardner joined Sciver-Brunt and both remained unbeaten on 10 and 37 respectively as the Rockets chased down the total with eight wickets in hand and with 17 balls to spare.
Earlier, the Rockets bowled first and they kept things tight, not allowing the hosts to get away. Ella McCaughan (6) and Georgia Voll (18) found it tough at the top of the order and failed to carry on. The Fire finally got momentum, thanks to the partnership between Freya Kemp and skipper Sophie Devine.
Devine scored a fine 25-ball 38 before getting cleaned up on the 85th ball as 71-run stand was broken. Georgia Wareham’s cameo of 10-ball 19* and Kemp’s unbeaten 36 powered the Fire side to 129/3 at the end of 100 balls. For the Rockets, debutant Charley Phillips (2/17) picked up two scalps. The batters then made short work of the chase.

Beth Mooney (Hero of the Match): (On the all-round performance from the girls) Yeah, good all-round performance from everyone. The score was probably around par. We would've been happy with that score of 130 at the start of the day.
(On the bowling performance in the first innings) Yeah, I thought we were going pretty well in the first half of the innings. After that, the partnership between Devine and Kemp was really good and they sort of got away from us a little bit in the backend. I thought 130 was a good score to chase. 1 big partnership would get the job done for us and which indeed got us over the line in the end.
(Was there any plans with regards to how to bat in the powerplay?) Not really. I felt that it's good to kill the back of the run chase in the powerplay itself. Thankfully we could do that. Between Dunks (Dunkley) and I, we had a good partnership in the first 25 balls. We got a little bit lucky but also managed to get a few away as well.
(On her batting performance) I think that the Welsh bowlers had pretty good plans. If you get a boundary away early, it's pretty hard to comeback from there on. So, yeah, it was a good contest at the end. You have to bat well on a surface like that in order to get over the line.
It's important to get early wins as much as you can in this competition as it comes thick and fast. Good to see that we are playing really well as a unit."
