8:16 PM IST and 4:46 PM Local Time: West Indies U-19 have completed a dominating victory over the South Africa U-19 team by 55 runs. Proteas have lost their second match in this tournament. West Indies have got 4 points from 3 games and are behind Afghanistan in the points table who are at the top with 6 points.
West Indies U-19 won the toss and opted to bat first. Tanez Francis got out cheaply but Zachary Carter was the star of the batting for the Caribbean side. After Francis' dismissal, he was accompanied by his skipper. Carter and Joshua Dorne added 82 runs for the second wicket and Carter was the major contributor there. Dorne got out for 20 and that brought a collapse for West Indies as they lost Jewel Andrew and Shamar Apple for ducks.
Carter then led the charge with Jonathan Van Lange and added 78 runs for the 5th wicket. His innings of 114 from 104 balls hitting 8 fours and as many sixes proved to be extremely important for his team. After his dismissal, West Indies could add only 42 runs and got bundled out for 234.
Jacob Basson was the star of the South Africa bowling. He took 5 wickets for 23 runs. Jason Rowles took a couple of wickets too.
South Africa came out to bat and got off to a very sedate start. Jorich Van Schalkwyk and his fellow opener Adnaan Lagadien added 19 runs from 34 balls for the opening stand. After the dismissal of Lagadien, Jorich took the attack on the pacers but misjudged an arm ball from Isra-el Morton and got out for 20. In the very next ball, skipper Muhammed Bulbulia gifted his wicket away to Shaquan Belle.
When Proteas were starring down the barrel, Jason Rowles and Armaan Manack helped them to recover by adding 42 runs for the 4th wicket. But Manack threw his wicket away as he ran himself out on 17. Daniel Bosman and Rowles were batting well and Rowles started to take on the West Indies' spinners. He top scored for the Proteas with 46 off 40 balls hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes but a terrific leg-break from Vitel Lawes clipped the top of his off stump.
Keeper-batter Lethabo Phahlamohlaka started to give some fight back with his big hits. He took on Lawes and scored 26 off 20 balls before edging Shaquan Belle's delivery to the keeper. The victory was just a matter of time for West Indies then and Jakeem Pollard took the final wicket of Jacob Basson to bundle the Proteas out for 179 and won the match by 55 runs.
Shaquan Belle was the pick of the bowlers for the West Indies team. He finished with 6/40 in his 10 overs. He was well assisted by his partners. Jakeem Pollard, Isra-el Morton and Vitel Lawes took a wicket each.
