Kyle Jamieson

The first thing that is bound to come to your mind after seeing New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jamieson is undoubtedly his towering height. Standing tall at 6’8”, he is definitely one of the tallest fast bowlers going around. 

He is also a reliable lower-middle-order batsman and proved his credentials in his maiden Test against India early in 2020. It was a gutsy knock that paved the way for a Kiwis win from a situation of relative discomfort. 

Quite naturally, with his height, Jamieson tends to extract steep bounce from the pitch and could go on to become a vital cog in the New Zealand bowling line-up in the coming years. He also has the ability to move the ball both ways, as he demonstrated in his debut series against India. 

Born and brought up in Auckland, Jamieson’s moment of recognition came when he was plying his trade for Canterbury in the domestic circuit. A spell of 6/7 in the 2019 Super Smash made the selectors turn their heads, and a national call-up was inevitable in the coming months. 

Kyle Jamieson’s ODI Career

Kyle Jamieson made his ODI debut for New Zealand against India on February 8, 2020, at Eden Park, Auckland. He had a memorable debut, picking up two wickets and scoring a valuable 25* off 24, contributing to a New Zealand win and earning a player of the match award in the second ODI of the series. 

Notably, he was a part of the New Zealand squad that played the final of the 2025 Champions Trophy. 

Kyle Jamieson’s Test Career

On the same line, Kyle Jamieson had a dream Test debut for New Zealand against India in Wellington on February 21, 2020. He took 3-38 in the first innings, including the key wickets of Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Hanuma Vihari, helping bowl out India for 165. He also contributed a crucial 44 runs with the bat. 

Moreover, in the very next match, Jamieson took his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Only a year later, in January 2021, Jamieson took his best Test figures, 11 for 117, in the Christchurch Test against Pakistan.

Standing tall as the most impressive Kiwi Test bowler, in the 2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship Final, Jamieson was named as the man of the match, after taking seven wickets, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings. 

Notably, for his remarkable performances in the longest format of the game, during the annual ICC Awards in January 2022, Jamieson was named in the ICC Men's Test Team of the Year for 2021.

Kyle Jamieson T20I Career

Kyle Jamieson made his T20I debut for New Zealand against the West Indies on November 27, 2020, in Auckland. In August 2021, Jamieson was named in New Zealand's squad for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

Jamieson was bought by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at INR 15 Crore in the 2021 IPL auction and has also been a part of the Chennai Super Kings setup. Jamieson was part of the Punjab Kings for the TATA IPL 2025, replacing Lockie Ferguson at his reserve price of INR 2 Crore. The Kiwi pacer was acquired by Delhi Capitals for INR 2 crore in the IPL 2026 Auction.

After missing the 2022 and 2024 editions of the T20 World Cup, the lanky paceman was included in the squad for the 2026 megaevent.
