A left-arm pacer with a devastating inswinger, Luke Wood made immediate impacts in Nottinghamshire Premier League cricket and the County’s age-group sides, making his debut in the County Championship when he was just a teenager.

Wood’s rapid development continued as he was selected in the England U-19 squad and played in the ODI series against Pakistan in 2013. The following English summer, he was the talisman in the U-19 squad for the ODI and Test series against South Africa.

After bursting onto the scene in 2015, Wood's potential was recognised with a place on an ECB bowling camp, but he found opportunities limited at Trent Bridge among a battery of fast bowlers that included Stuart Broad, Jake Ball, Luke Fletcher, and Harry Gurney.

He went on to temporarily join Northamptonshire at the beginning of 2019 and made a good impression against Lancashire, taking his maiden First-Class five-wicket haul and scoring a half-century in the County Championship match at Emirates Old Trafford.

On being offered a new contract by Notts in 2019, Wood decided to opt out mid-season and signed a three-year contract with Lancashire at the end of the 2019 season. Known for his commitment and some fine performances, the English pacer has a lot of potential in the bag, which makes him the most renowned all-rounder in County cricket at the moment.

Luke Wood International Career

The left-arm quick, Luke Wood, made his T20I debut for England on September 20, 2022, against Pakistan in Karachi. He delivered a stellar performance in his first match, taking 3 wickets for 24 runs (3/24) in 4 overs, helping England secure a 6-wicket victory.

Wood made his ODI debut for England against Australia in Adelaide on November 17, 2022. However, he claimed Rachin Ravindra for his first ODI wicket in October 2025.

Luke Wood Franchise Career

In the BPL 2022–23, he was taken by the Sylhet Strikers franchise. He played a crucial part in the Qualifier 2, conceding just 3 runs in the penultimate over, helping Sylhet reach the final of BPL 2023.

Moreover, on 18 March 2024, the Mumbai Indians signed him as a replacement for the injured Jason Behrendorff for INR 50 lakh. Additionally, he has featured in the PSL for Peshawar Zalmi.

Ahead of the mini auctions for IPL 2025, the Gujarat Titans acquired the services of Luke Wood.
