Ben Dwarshuis is an Australian left-arm fast-medium bowler known for his variations and useful lower-order hitting in white-ball cricket.

A long-time performer for New South Wales and the Sydney Sixers, he later broke into the Australian limited-overs setup and earned an IPL contract with Punjab Kings.

His career has largely revolved around T20 cricket, where control at the death and change-ups have been his primary strengths.

Ben Dwarshuis’ Early Life and Background

Ben Dwarshuis was born on June 23, 1994, in Kareela, New South Wales, and is of Dutch heritage. Growing up in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire, he developed his interest in cricket through backyard games and school competitions while studying at Heathcote High School.

From a young age, he leaned toward pace bowling, eventually shaping himself into a left-arm seamer who relied on angles and cutters rather than pure speed. Those early years in grade and junior cricket laid the technical base that later suited him well in T20 formats.

Ben Dwarshuis’ Domestic Career

Ben Dwarshuis represents New South Wales in Australian domestic cricket and has gradually built his reputation across formats.

He made his List A debut in October 2016 and contributed to New South Wales’ one-day success in later seasons. His First-Class debut arrived in October 2022, notably picking up a wicket with his very first delivery — an unusual introduction to red-ball cricket for someone already established in white-ball formats.

However, his strongest impact has come in T20 competitions. Since debuting for the Sydney Sixers in 2014 in the BBL, he has been a consistent wicket-taking option and part of multiple title-winning campaigns.

Over the years, he developed into a specialist death-overs bowler and became one of the regular leading wicket-takers for the franchise, highlighted by a five-wicket haul during the 2021–22 season. His performances in leagues around the world, including England’s T20 Blast and other franchise tournaments, further strengthened his white-ball reputation.

Ben Dwarshuis’ International Career

Ben Dwarshuis’ international journey reflects persistence. He received his first Australia call-up in 2018 for the Trans-Tasman T20 tri-series but did not play, and it took nearly four years before he finally stepped onto the field in national colours. Over time, steady performances in domestic and franchise cricket helped him transition from a fringe squad member into a regular white-ball option.

Dwarshuis made his ODI debut against England at Trent Bridge in September 2024. He struck early by bowling out Phil Salt for his maiden international wicket, though his debut match was shortened due to a pectoral injury while fielding.

He later played a supporting role in Australia’s limited-overs campaigns, including the 2025 Champions Trophy, where he finished as the team’s leading wicket-taker with multiple three-wicket spells. Alongside his bowling, he has contributed useful lower-order runs when required.

Dwarshuis’ long-awaited T20I debut came on April 5, 2022, against Pakistan in Lahore. From there, he gradually became a regular inclusion in Australia’s T20 plans, valued for left-arm angle and change-ups. He recorded his best figures in the format against the West Indies in 2025 and maintained a consistent wicket-taking run across consecutive matches.

Ben Dwarshuis’ IPL Career

Ben Dwarshuis’ IPL association has stretched over several seasons, built on patience rather than immediate opportunity. He was first signed by Kings XI Punjab in 2018, where he joined the squad but did not feature in a match. A few years later, he returned to the league as a replacement player for the Delhi Capitals during the 2021 season, again remaining part of the setup without getting game time.

His growing reputation in international white-ball cricket changed his standing ahead of the 2026 season. After a strong year with Australia, franchises showed renewed interest, and Punjab Kings secured him in the auction for a price significantly higher than during his earlier stint.

For the upcoming season, he is expected to add left-arm variation to the pace attack and provide depth to the lower order — a role suited to his T20 skill set developed across global leagues and international matches.
