A batting all-rounder for the Blackcaps, Rachin Ravindra, gathered steam around the world even before making his international debut. Another Kiwi of Indian origin, Ravindra, is a rookie all-rounder with a mature head on his young shoulders.

Since making his first-class debut on a New Zealand A tour against Pakistan A in the UAE, Ravindra has racked up impressive numbers as a top-order batsman. At the age of 16, he was the youngest Kiwi to take part in the 2016 U-19 World Cup in Bangladesh.

Also a handy left-arm spinner, Ravindra was born to Indian parents in Wellington and caught the fancy of New Zealand Cricket’s talent spotters since his Under-19 days - having represented the country in the 2016 and 2018 Youth World Cups.

Ravindra hit a century for New Zealand A against the West Indies just on the eve of the selection into the squad for the two-Test series against England, which was followed by the World Test Championship final against India.

Rachin Ravindra T20I Career

Young Rachin Ravindra made his entry to the international stage, making his T20I debut on September 1, 2021, against Bangladesh in Mirpur; however, he got out on a golden duck.

Ravindra scored his maiden T20I fifty off just 29 balls against Australia in Wellington on February 21, 2024, hitting 68 runs from 35 deliveries, featuring six sixes, during a crucial 113-run partnership with Devon Conway to help New Zealand post a strong total.

Further, in May 2024, he was named in New Zealand's squad for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup tournament. Ravindra played three of New Zealand's four games before the team exited the tournament at the group stage following defeats to Afghanistan and the West Indies.

Rachin Ravindra Test Career

Rachin Ravindra’s domestic performances were duly rewarded after he was named in New Zealand’s Test squad for the series against England and for the final of the  2019–21 ICC World Test Championship.

The Kiwi batter Ravindra made his Test debut on 25 November 2021 for New Zealand against India.

Finally, in February 2024, Rachin scored his maiden Test century, 240 off 366, during the first Test of South Africa's tour of New Zealand. Notably, it is the highest maiden Test century by a New Zealand batter.

In October 2025, born in Bengaluru, Rachin Ravindra, continued his love-affair with M Chinnaswamy Stadium as he notched up his maiden hundred against India during Day 3 of the 1st Test. This was the first hundred by a New Zealand batter in 12 years in the Test format. Ravindra also shared a crucial partnership with Tim Southee as the duo took New Zealand's lead past 250.

Rachin Ravindra ODI Career

On March 25, 2023, Rachin Ravindra made his ODI debut for New Zealand against Sri Lanka at Eden Park, Auckland, scoring a solid 49 runs off 52 balls in his first match.

The year 2023 proved to be a breakthrough season for the Kiwi batter, who amassed 3 centuries and 578 runs at the 2023 ODI World Cup, ending the year with 820 ODI runs at an average of 41, with a strike rate of 108.03, and winning the 2023 ICC Men's Emerging Cricketer of the Year award.

It is important to note that Rachin was not officially in contention for the final squad for the 2023 World Cup, but he made the cut, replacing the injured Michael Bracewell.

During the tournament, he broke Jonny Bairstow's record for having scored the most runs by a player in his debut World Cup with 550 runs. Apart from that, he also surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's record for having scored the most runs in a single edition of the World Cup before turning 25, with a tally of 550 runs in 9 matches.

After his heroics in the 2023 ODI World Cup, Ravindra was named as part of New Zealand's squad for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Notably, on his Champions Trophy debut, Ravindra scored 112 runs off 105 balls against Bangladesh, becoming the first player in history to score a century on debut in both the World Cup and Champions Trophy. Moreover, in the semifinal against South Africa, he scored another century.

The young batter ended the tournament as the leading run scorer, amassing 263 runs with an average of 65.75 in just 4 games, and was named the Player of the Tournament.
