Dewmi Vihanga

For Sri Lanka, Dewmi Vihanga represents the future of spin bowling — young, fearless, and already delivering match-winning spells on the international stage.

Born on August 2, 2005, in Kuliyapitiya, Vihanga worked her way up through the domestic circuit with Chilaw Marians Cricket Club and caught early attention in the Women’s Super Provincial T20 with Dambulla in 2019. Her big breakthrough came at the inaugural Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in 2023, where she was among the standout performers and earned a place in the “Team of the Tournament” for her consistent bowling and handy runs down the order.

That promise translated quickly into senior cricket. Vihanga made her ODI debut in May 2025 against South Africa and within days produced a career-defining performance, snaring 5 for 43 in the same tri-series. In her first four ODIs, she bagged 11 wickets at an impressive average of 18.81, immediately stamping herself as one of Sri Lanka’s brightest new-match winners.

A right-arm off-spinner who can also contribute as a lower-order batter, Vihanga combines control with the ability to strike in key moments. As she prepares for her maiden ODI World Cup, Sri Lanka will be banking on her youthful energy and wicket-taking knack to trouble some of the world’s best batters.
