Mohammad Abbas

A prolific right-arm medium-fast bowler, Mohammad Abbas is a professional cricketer, who plays for Pakistan cricket team and has been a lethal red-ball bowler for the men in green for the past 4 years.

Abbas made his debut in first-class cricket long back in 2009 playing for his regional side Sialkot against Abottabad on February 7 but emerged to fame in 2016 after two successful domestic seasons. In the 2015-16 Quaid-e-Azam trophy, Abbas topped the bowling charts with 61 wickets in just 10 games. Subsequently, in the next edition, he again topped the charts with 71 dismissals. Back in devastating form, Abbas picked 31 wickets in 7 matches in the 2017-18 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

After seven years of grind in the domestic circuit and leading the bowling charts for three years in a row, Abbas got a call-up from the selectors for their Test series against the West Indies. He made his Test debut against the West Indies on April 21, 2017 and scalped Kraigg Braithwaite in just the second ball of his Test career and ended the game with 3 wickets in the bag. With loads of domestic experience and a decent record in domestic red-ball cricket, Abbas picked up his maiden five-wicket haul in the third Test against the West Indies.

After cementing his spot in the Test squad for the Men in Green, Abbas was the talisman in the Pakistani bowling attack and he never failed to live up to the reputation. The pacer was declared as the player of the series in Pakistan's two-Test series against England in May and June 2018.

In his 10th Test match, Abbas became the joint quickest to take 50 wickets for Pakistan in Tests. His first ten-wicket haul also came in that series against Australia where he became the first pace bowler to pick up a ten-wicket haul in the United Arab Emirates.

Abbas’ entry in limited-overs was not quite a memorable one. He made his debut against Australia on March 22, 2019 but ended up on the losing side picking just one wicket on his debut. That series against Australia became his last ODI series as he hasn’t made a comeback in limited-overs cricket.

On  March 4, the Sialkot-born pacer signed for Hampshire Country Cricket Club as one of the overseas players for the 2021 County Championship in England.

Still being the first choice pacer alongside Shaheen Shah Afridi, Abbas has already shown his domination in the longer formats, and with his experience in the side, it could well nourish the young talented pace bowlers like Naseem Shah, Muhammad Hasnain.
