Tim Seifert

Pocket-sized dynamite who can hit the long ball, Tim Seifert’s transition from first-class cricket to international cricket has been pretty rapid. Having made his first-class debut for Otago against the Northern Districts in December 2014, Seifert hogged the limelight when he smashed the fastest T20 century in New Zealand’s domestic circuit. It was his 40-ball ton that made the selectors turn their heads towards the explosive right-handed wicket-keeper batsman.

His knock in the T20 encounter meant that he was also auditioned for the wicket-keeper’s slot in the national team along with Tom Blundell and Glenn Phillips. When these two players failed to seize the opportunity, Seifert broke into the national side midway through the tri-series, also involving Australia and England, in early 2018. He announced his arrival in international cricket almost immediately with a quickfire blitz.

Just a couple of years into domestic cricket, Seifert has been a good find for New Zealand cricket in recent times. Seifert was a wicket-keeper since his school days, and, owing to some impressive knocks in the domestic circuit, he has been included in the New Zealand A squad for the tour of India. He was the only bright spot for the New Zealand A team as they were thrashed in the unofficial Tests.

Owing to his big-hitting prowess, Seifert was included in the Kolkata Knight Riders squad for the IPL 2021 but didn’t manage to make the XI. He is a sensational striker with the ball, but has been on a lean patch in the recent past. Given the abilities he possesses, Seifert can go on donning the wicket-keeping gloves for New Zealand for a long time, especially in the shorter formats.

Tim Seifert T20I Career

After establishing himself at the domestic level, Tim Seifert made his T20I debut on 13 February 2018 against England.

In August 2021, Seifert was also named in New Zealand's squad for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, which went on to play the final.

Tim Seifert’s most remarkable knock in the shortest format of the game came in March 2025. Seifert’s explosive 97* led New Zealand to an eight-wicket victory over Pakistan, securing a 4-1 T20 series win.

Later, in January 2026, Seifert was included in New Zealand’s squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup, opening the innings with Finn Allen. This selection was influenced by his prior experience in the IPL.

Tim Seifert ODI Career

The wicket-keeper batter, Tim Seifert, made his ODI debut for New Zealand on January 3, 2019, against Sri Lanka at Mount Maunganui (Bay Oval). Seifert scored 11 runs in his brief innings, thus having a sedate start to his career in the 50-over format.
