A profound batting all-rounder with a left-arm orthodox in his arsenal, Liam Dawson joined his first cricket club when he was seven and moved to Chippenham Cricket Club in Wiltshire, where he played his youth cricket.
During his stint with the Chippenham Club, he was spotted by Hampshire. Dawson soon started playing for Hampshire Second XI and Wiltshire. His impressive performances for Hampshire’s second XI earned him his debut cap for the England U-19 team for the tour of Malaysia in 2006-07. During the unofficial tour, he even bagged figures of 6/9 against Malaysia U-19 and was also made the captain for the U-19 team.
Dawson made his first-class debut against Yorkshire in September 2007 and had a non-significant debut. His maiden century came in the following year against Nottinghamshire.
However, he was quick to realise that bowling was his strong point. He picked up 26 wickets in the County Championships in the 2012 season. Getting better with time, Dawson scored heavily and crossed the 1000-run mark in a season for the first time in 2013 and also started focusing on the shortest format.
Liam Dawson T20I Career
Laim Dawson was first named in the national team for the ICC World T20 2016 held in India, but didn’t get an opportunity to play. He made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka in July 2016 and scalped 3 crucial wickets on his debut.
However, an injury to the right wrist in 2018 hampered his selection in the national team, and for a long time, he had failed to make his presence felt.
In June 2025, Dawson was recalled to the England T20 squad for the home series against the West Indies. Playing his first T20I after 3 years, the all-rounder made an immediate impact with career-best figures of 4-20.
Liam Dawson ODI Career
Liam Dawson made his ODI debut for England on September 4, 2016, against Pakistan at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff. During his debut match, the spin-bowling all-rounder scored 10 runs and recorded bowling figures of 2-70.
Liam Dawson Test Career
Liam Dawson made his Test debut for England against India in Chennai on December 16, 2016, during the fifth Test of the 2016-17 series, Utilita Bowl. Primarily a spinner, he impressed by scoring an unbeaten 66 in his first innings, the highest score by an England number eight on debut
