Shemaine Altia Campbell is a rare Caribbean batter who doesn't power the ball but times it to perfection. She has been handy with both bat and ball and also an occasional wicket-keeper in white-ball cricket. The all-rounder is one of the most experienced and established faces in West Indies cricket. Campbell is also the first female cricketer to score a century at number seven or lower.

Having made her debut in 2009, Campbell plays the role of an anchor, in a batting lineup full of power hitters to provide stability in the middle order. However, it wasn’t always the case. Initially, she used to bat lower down the order but her maiden half-century, against Sri Lanka in April 2012, moved her position up the order. In September, the Guyana-born all-rounder became the youngest cricketer to lead West Indies in a T20I match, aged 19 years and 338 days.

The next year, Campbell was named in the squad for the World Cup where the all-rounder had a pretty ordinary tournament. Though post the ICC event, Campbell scored her maiden century in Dambulla.

The talented all-rounder was also part of the West Indies squad that lifted the World T20 trophy in 2016. Campbell had subtle outings in India that saw her being dropped from the 2017 World Cup squad.

The national selectors brought an experienced Campbell back into the team for the World T20 to retain the trophy, but couldn’t do so. In 2020, she represented West Indies during the highly-celebrated 20-over global event Down Under. During the ICC event, the seasoned campaigner played a few handful knocks but her team couldn’t qualify for the knockouts. =

Campbell has immensely contributed to West Indies’ success since her debut. She has played close to 200 international games and served her national side in all three departments of the game. Still just 28 years old, Campbell has a lot to achieve and can cross many more milestones.
