"I'm not the most focused person and can lose concentration in quite a lot of things. But, right now, scoring runs is the most important thing in life,” that’s Ben Duckett for you - honest and blunt.

An explosive wicket-keeper batter whose career has undergone several crests and troughs. Duckett is a quality stroke-maker and a rare Englishman who plays spin well, apart from bashing the pacers out of the stadium.

Once taunted “panache, impish ingenuity, confidence and courage”, Duckett has all the ingredients to become an all-format future star for England.

Ben Duckett Domestic Career

Ben Duckett is a product of the Buckinghamshire independent school system and joined the Northamptonshire youth setup at 11. He soon graduated to the First XI side by the age of 17.

The Kent-born was part of England’s scheme of things for the 2014 U-19 World Cup and played a crucial role in the quarterfinal game against India and the third-place match against Australia.

Post the Junior World Cup, Duckett had a troublesome time at the start of 2015, as he was omitted from the pre-season Barbados tour due to poor fitness levels, before being banned for driving under the influence later that season.

However, he starred the following season, scoring a double hundred in a 50-over game for England Lions. Duckett scored 2,706 runs in all formats and missed Marcus Trescothick's record of 2934 runs narrowly.

His success in the domestic circles meant a national call-up for the tour of Bangladesh and India, where he made his Test and ODI debuts against the hosts.

Ben Duckett ODI Career

The left-handed batter Ben Duckett made his ODI debut for England on October 7, 2016, against Bangladesh at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. Duckett announced his arrival with a 78-ball 60 in his maiden international game, making an immediate impact.

Ben Duckett scored his maiden ODI century for England on September 26, 2023, against Ireland at the County Ground in Bristol. He finished with an unbeaten 107 runs off 78 balls, with his innings featuring 16 fours and 2 sixes in a match that was eventually abandoned due to rain.

In September 2025, Duckett scored 165 runs off 143 balls against Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy, the highest individual score ever in the tournament’s history until Ibrahim Zadran broke Duckett's record in the same tournament.

Ben Duckett Test Career

Only a few days after his ODI debut, Ben Duckett played his maiden Test for England on October 20, 2016, against Bangladesh in Chittagong.

As a left-handed opener, he was selected following an exceptional 2016 domestic season. He played two Tests in Bangladesh and two in India during that 2016 winter tour before being dropped.

Adding salt to his misery, Duckett was dropped from England’s playing 11 to face Australia during the 2017-18 Ashes Tour for pouring a drink over Jimmy Anderson in a bar.

Ben Duckett’s introduction in Bazball era

After Brandon McCullum’s appointment as England Test head coach in May 2022, he restored Ben Duckett’s international career, transforming him from a discarded 2016 Test debutant into a cornerstone of the "Bazball" era.

After six years out of the Test side, 2022, where his aggressive style proved to be a perfect fit for the new, fearless approach implemented by McCullum and captain Ben Stokes.

The decision made an immediate impact. During the 2022 Test series against Pakistan, Duckett and Zak Crawley stitched a 233-run partnership, the highest opening stand for England in Tests since 273 between Marcus Trescothick and Andrew Strauss against South Africa in 2004. It is the eighth-highest opening stand for England in Test cricket and the sixth-highest by any team against Pakistan.

The opener continued his form and scored a dominant 182 off 178 balls against Ireland in the one-off Test at Lord's in June 2023. Duckett followed this with a fabulous run in the 2023 Ashes, amassing 321 in five games.

However, the English batter failed to impress in the Ashes 2025-26, scoring only 202 runs in the series. Nonetheless, the opener didn’t change his style of play, scoring at an impressive strike rate of 91.4, the best in the edition.

Ben Duckett T20I Career

After the bar incident, the promising youngster made another international comeback in 2019, after establishing himself as one of the most prolific cross-format batsmen in county cricket. Ben Duckett made his maiden T20I appearance on May 5, 2019, against Pakistan, but didn’t have a dream debut, scoring only 9 off 7.

In 2026, the attacking batter earned his maiden IPL contract with Delhi Capitals, but he chose to opt out of the tournament to concentrate more on his international career.
