Lancashire County Cricket Club was founded in 1864.In English cricket, it represents the mediaeval county of Lancashire. Between 1879 and 1889, Lancashire won the title of Champion County four times. In the 1897 and 1904 seasons, they won their first two County Championships. They won the championship five times between 1926 and 1934. Lancashire and Yorkshire had the strongest two teams in England for most of the interwar period, and the Roses Matches between them were frequently the highlight of the domestic season. Lancashire and Surrey shared the title in 1950.
Lancashire was promoted to the premier level of the County Championship in 2000. They won the County Championship in 2011, ending a 77-year wait since the club's previous outright victory in 1934. Lancashire was a founding member of the County Championship in 1890 and has won nine times, the most recent being in 2011. Lancashire Lightning is the name of the club's limited overs team.
Lancashire defeated Yorkshire in the NatWest Trophy and Benson & Hedges Cup finals at Lord's in 1990. It was the first time in history that a county won both tournaments in the same year. Andrew Symonds, who recently passed away, was a legendary cricketer for Lancashire.
