Hampshire County Cricket Club was founded on August 12, 1863, and is one of England and Wales' eighteen first-class county clubs. Hampshire is the historic county it represents. Hampshire teams produced by prior organisations, primarily the Hambledon Club, were always first-class, and the county club had the same standing when it was founded in 1863. Hampshire lost its status for nine seasons after poor performances until 1885, when it was invited into the County Championship. Since then, the side has competed in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England. Hampshire first played at the Antelope Ground in Southampton from 1885 until 2000, when they moved to the County Ground in Southampton.
Shane Warne was signed as the club’s overseas player in 2000. Hampshire’s final season at the County Ground Southampton was the 2000 County Championship, before relocating to the Rose Bowl, a purpose built venue in the West End, Eastleigh. The club has won the County Championship on the occasions,in 1961 and 1973.
Hampshire just defeated Somerset by 10-wickets in three days at Taunton in the County Championship.
