The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are one of the most successful franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Chennai Super Kings Ltd. owns the Tamil Nadu-based franchise, and India Cements holds the majority of stakes.

M.A. Chidambaram Stadium serves as the home ground for the Chennai-based franchise. Under the leadership of talismanic wicketkeeper-batter Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK has won five IPL titles. In 2015 and 2016, they served a two-year hiatus due to involvement in the 2013 IPL betting case.

They are one of the only two teams to defend an IPL title (the second is Mumbai Indians). Stephen Fleming is the head coach of the Chennai-based franchise.

CSK has featured in the playoffs a record 12 times and has reached the final 10 times. In addition, they won the Champions League T20 title in 2010 and 2014.

They won their maiden IPL title in 2010 with a 22-run win over Mumbai Indians. In 2011, they successfully defended their title by defeating the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the final.

After a two-year suspension, CSK made a comeback in 2018 by winning the title for the third time after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final.

After finishing seventh in 2020, CSK made an astonishing comeback in 2021 to clinch title No. 4 by beating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the summit clash.

A few days before the start of the 2022 season, Dhoni surprised one and all when he decided to hand over the captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja. Unfortunately, Jadeja failed to deliver, and the management decided to hand back the captaincy to Dhoni.

Ahead of the 2023 edition, the Dhoni-led team acquired the likes of Ben Stokes and Ajinkya Rahane as prominent names.

It was a déjà vu season as the franchise won their fifth title under Dhoni's captaincy, thanks to Jadeja, who displayed nerves of steel in the final versus Gujarat Titans. CSK needed 10 runs off two balls, and Jadeja smashed a six and a four off Mohit Sharma, pulling off a miraculous victory.

Ahead of the massive IPL 2024 season, MS Dhoni handed over the CSK captaincy to the ever-reliant Ruturaj Gaikwad, but the legendary finisher played some spellbinding under his new command-in-chief.

That year, Chennai experienced a mix of highs and lows, ultimately falling short of their championship aspirations. The team's playoff aspirations were dashed in a crucial match against RCB.

For the IPL 2025 edition, the Super Kings made strategic decisions, securing five key players to maintain their core strength.

Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, known for his consistent performances, was retained for INR 18 crore. Young Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana was kept for INR 13 crore to bolster the bowling attack, while Shivam Dube was retained for INR 12 crore.

The experienced Ravindra Jadeja was also secured for INR 18 crore. Meanwhile, MS Dhoni was retained for INR 4 crore under a new rule that allows players who haven't played international cricket in the last five years to be considered uncapped.

With a remaining purse of INR 55 crore after retaining key players, CSK focused on acquiring talent that aligns with their tactical approach.

A significant highlight of the auction was the reacquisition of seasoned spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for INR 9.75 crore. To further strengthen their spin arsenal, CSK secured Afghanistan's left-arm unorthodox spinner Noor Ahmad for INR 10 crore.

In the batting department, CSK focused on reinforcing their top order by bringing back New Zealand opener Devon Conway for INR 6.25 crore. Additionally, CSK acquired Indian batter Rahul Tripathi for INR 3.40 crore. Known for his adaptability and aggressive style. They have also added a few new exciting names in the heist for its sixth IPL title.
