Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) was founded in 2012 after the Hyderabad-based franchise, Deccan Chargers, was terminated by the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council (GC). The franchise represents the city of Hyderabad in Telangana and is owned by Kalanithi Maran of the SUN Group. SRH play their home games at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.

Thanks to their former skipper David Warner, the Sunrisers won the IPL title in 2016. Meanwhile, SRH has been one of the most consistent teams in the IPL to make it into the playoffs. They have reached the final twice but could only manage to win one of those. The Hyderabad-based franchise made it to the playoffs in six out of the nine seasons that they have taken part in.

Warner, Rashid Khan and several other key players were released ahead of the 2022 mega auction while the leadership was given to Kane Williamson, but not for too long. They also had Aiden Markram as their captain after the South African helped SRH's sister franchise win two back-to-back SA20 titles.

However, the Sunrisers rebranded themselves in 2024 under the astute leadership of the World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins.

IPL 2024, SRH had a season to watch out for, thanks to destructive batting by Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen, but they had a heartbreaking end to the season, as they lost the final to KKR. The subsequent season wasn't too memorable for the Sunrisers, after parting ways with experienced players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rahul Tripathi, and T Natarajan.

Moreover, before the start of IPL 2026, they had to name Ishan Kishan as captain for the initial few matches as a cover for an injured Pat Cummins.

With a well-balanced mix of explosive batting, experienced pace options, and strong leadership, SRH is set to enter IPL 2026 as a serious title contender, aiming to secure their second championship since their 2016 triumph.
