Australia's national cricket team boasts of a rich experience in the sport, having dominated the world for the better part of the 90s and 2000s.
Australia's cricketing history dates back to 1877 when they played their first Test match against England. Being the joint-oldest Test-playing nation, Australia competed at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground in their debut Test affair that witnessed them beating England by 45 runs. David William Gregory was the first Australian national cricket team's captain.
Billed as the greatest Test side, Australia climbed great heights in the longest format of the game. The team still has the record for most consecutive Test wins (16) which they achieved twice in distinguished periods of 1999-01 and 2005-08.
The side made their ODI and T20I debuts in 1971 and 2005 versus England and New Zealand, respectively, claiming wins in both the fixtures.
Holding the record-most World Cup titles (5), Australia have enjoyed the highest percentage of success in ODI cricket. Their golden period also saw them lifting the Champions Trophy in successive editions (2006 and 2009) of the tournament.
The one trophy that eluded them till 2021 now shines in their vast cabinet as they recently came victorious in the 2021 edition of T20I World Cup under the leadership of Aaron Finch.
The Aussies are only yet to bring the World Test Championship title in their bucket.
