AFG won by 17 runs (DLS METHOD)
10:09 PM IST, 10:39 PM Local Time: So, in a rain interrupted encounter where we have had three stoppages, it is Afghanistan who has come out on top by playing smart cricket. They win the contest in the end by 17 runs under DLS method to draw the first blood and go 1-0 up in the 3-match series.

Let's recap you the match that we had which also had multiple interruptions. Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bowl first. Bangladesh were off to a steady start before skipper Tamim Iqbal fell for 13. The top order batters got starts but could not kick on. Litton Das scored 26. Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 12 and Shakib scored 15 off 38 balls. But they all lost their wickets. It was Towhid Hridoy who stood out with his fifty as he scored 51 off 69 balls and held the innings together. 24 extras contributed to the score as Bangladesh ended with 169/9 in 43 overs. Rain interrupted the proceedings twice in the Bangladesh innings.

The Afghanistan bowlers came back well with the ball. Fazalhaq Farooqi was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/24 in 8.4 overs before he walked off with a possible side strain. The spinners of Afghanistan were miserly and got the wickets. Rashid Khan picked up a couple of wickets for 21 runs in 9 overs. Mujeeb got a couple of wickets for 23 runs in 9 overs. A wicket for Mohammad Nabi and Azmatullah Omarzai. Saleem the debutant had a tough day in the office.

Chasing a revised target of 164 for the win in 43 overs, Afghanistan got off to a solid start courtesy of their openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran. The duo put on 54 for the first wicket to lay the foundation before Shakib got rid of Gurbaz for 22. Rahmat Shah was the other wicket to fall as he fell for 8 to Taskin Ahmed. Ibrahim was unbeaten on 41* off 58 balls while skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi was unbeaten on 9* off 13 balls as Afghanistan reached 83/2 in 21.4 overs when the rain intervened for the third and final time and never relented.

Bangladesh had a very low score to defend and the bowlers bowled at good lines and lengths. Just 4 bowlers were used and the wicket takers were Taskin Ahmed and Shakib Al Hasan. It was a tough day for Bangladesh and the weather did not help them.

So, Afghanistan wins by 17 runs under DLS method to take a 1-0 lead in this 3-match series. Stick around for the presentation ceremony that comes your way soon.
10:25 PM IST, 10:55 Local Time: Time for the presentation ceremony.
Tamim Iqbal (Bangladesh Captain): "The weather and other things I don't think they need to be blamed as they are also part of the game. We had a very good start and then we lost back-to-back wickets twice and to be honest none of them was like an unbelievable ball. It was a loose shot from me. The wicket was a bit tricky and something around 250-160 could have been a good total."
Fazalhaq Farooqi (Player of the Match): "Yes, thank you god. We won the first game and nice to contribute. I wanted to bowl at the right areas and glad I did that. Thank you very much."
Hashmatullah Shahidi (Afghanistan Captain): "I think our bowlers did very well, bowled according to the plans. The catch Nabi made had a significant impact on the game for us, altering its course. Gurbaz and Ibrahim's performance at the beginning was commendable as they adapted to the situation and provided us with a strong start during the initial 10 overs. (Farooqi) He is okay, it was just a cramp. He will recover."
