Hailing from the small town of Gauteng, Wiaan Mulder pursued cricket from a very young age. Wiaan Mulder is a prolific fast bowling all-rounder for South Africa. With the ability to bowl fast and also handle the bat, Wiaan has become a regular in South Africa's squad for the Test format.

Mulder’s first-class debut was a superb show of fast bowling. Playing for Highveld Lions in the 2016-17 Sunfoil Series, he took seven wickets against Cape Cobras to announce his arrival.

After an astonishing debut series, Mulder got a breakthrough in the national side when he was named to replace the injured Wayne Parnell for the remainder of the ODI series against Bangladesh in 2017. At the ripe age of 18, Wiaan earned his ODI cap, and since then, he has been in contention for the squad.

In May 2019, Mulder signed with the Kent Country Club to play in the 2019 County Championship in England. A couple of matches later, he was called back to the Proteas squad ahead of their international schedule.

In February 2017, Mulder got his maiden Test call-up against Australia but did not play. Travelling with the squad for a couple of more series, he finally got a chance to make his Test debut against Sri Lanka in February 2019. Failing to capitalise on opportunities presented to him in his early career, Mulder was sidelined.

In January 2021, Mulder signed with Leicestershire County Cricket Club as an overseas player for the County Championship and Royal London One-Day Cup.  However, due to international commitments, the agreement was later cancelled.

April 2021 marked Mulder’s T20 International debut for South Africa against Pakistan. His growing stature in international cricket led to his inclusion in South Africa’s squad for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

In November 2021, Mulder re-signed with Leicestershire for the 2022 season. During a County Championship match in July 2022, he achieved his maiden first-class double century, scoring an unbeaten 235. Continuing his association with Leicestershire, Mulder was the team’s second-highest run-scorer in 2022, averaging just under 50, and their third-highest wicket-taker in 2023.

October 2024 was a milestone in Mulder’s career as he scored his maiden Test century, an unbeaten 105 against Bangladesh. His consistent performances led to his inclusion in South Africa’s Test squad for the series against Pakistan in December 2024 and January 2025.

Mulder was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad as a replacement for the injured Brydon Carse ahead of the IPL 2025 season. As he continues to evolve, Mulder remains a pivotal figure in South African cricket, exemplifying the role of a dynamic all-rounder on both domestic and international stages.
