Tumi Sekhukhune

A young right-arm medium-pace virtuoso hailing from Johannesburg, Tumi Sphindile Sekhukhune is a promising young gun who is emerging through the ranks for South Africa and en route to becoming one of the finest bowlers. 

Sekhukhune has emerged from the age-group cricket where she represented the South African Under19 team during the tri-series involving Australia U19 and England Academy in April 2018, where the medium-pacer took 13 wickets to gather all the attention span. 

After the successful Emerging Series, the national selectors named a 19-year-old Sekhukhune for the series against the West Indies and she donned the Proteas jersey during the series. The pacer made her ODI debut in September and took the wickets of Stafanie Taylor and Chedean Nation. A week later, she got her T20I cap as well and celebrated it with the figures of 1 for 12 in the spell of four overs. 

A year later, Sekhukhune hit countless headlines when CSA named her the International Women's Newcomer of the Year at its annual award ceremony, and ever since the pacer hasn’t dropped a beat. In 2018, the selectors selected her for the World T20, played at home. The next year, she was in the Devnarain squad for the inaugural edition of the Women’s T20 Super League. She was also part of the squad for the 2020 World Cup T20.

In the past couple of seasons, the promising pacer portrayed great skill and maturity. Sekhukhune idolizes Shabnim Ismail and wants to serve South Africa exactly in the same fashion as her idol does. The pacer has worked in close quarters with Ismail, both in the National Academy and at the international stage. If she works with the same intensity, Sekhukhune would surely become South Africa’s future, Ismail.
