Sune Luus

Luus has established herself as one of South Africa’s best spin bowlers in the past few years. 

A leg spinner by trade, Luus has the ability to chip in with the bat as a handy lower-order player. The South African has made a name for herself at the international level and is one of the most important bowlers for the Proteas team ever since her debut in 2012.

The talented spinner has represented Northern Women and South Africa U-19’s, and impressive performances for her domestic team earned Luus her maiden international call-up in 2012. 

In 2016, during a match against Ireland, she became the second player to score a half-century and take a fifer in a women’s ODI, after Heather Knight. 

She also equalled the record of Anisa Mohammed for picking up the most wickets in a calendar year in ODI’s, with 37 scalps to her name. 

For her outstanding performances throughout 2016, Luus was named the Women’s Cricketer of the Year at the 2017 Cricket South Africa’s annual award ceremony.

The spinner represented the Brisbane Heat for the 2018/19 WBBL season. In nine matches, she took 5 wickets at an economy of just over 7 runs per over.

In January 2021, in South Africa’s ODI series against Pakistan, Luus bagged her 100th ODI wicket and became the tenth cricketer to score 1000 runs and scalp 100 wickets in ODI matches.

A street smart cricketer, Luus has made a name for herself in the South African setup. A legend in the making, Luus’s ability to bowl economical spells to go alongside her batting abilities makes her a special player in the South African ranks.
