A productive all-rounder, Nicola Carey is a left-handed batter and a right-arm medium-pacer who is capable of changing the game with both bat and bowl.

The youngster came into the cricketing scene shortly before her 18th birthday when New South Wales played South Australia. She scored a match-winning 36 not out in her first WNCL appearance that held her place in the team for the next few matches until the return of international cricket. Unfortunately, she was robbed of a chance to play in the tournament when she was struck down by illness just days before the WT20 Final.

Playing just a handful of games in 2011-12, some encouraging performances at the Australian Youth level saw her invited to the training camp for Australian A. Initially failing to make it into the Australian A team, she was named in the squad at the last minute when NSW teammate Sarah Coyte fell ill.

Carey’s impressive performances in her first full season in 2014-15 saw her named in the Australian A squad against the England Academy in Dubai. She was part of the Sydney Thunder squad that won the inaugural season of the Women's Big Bash and was called into the Australian squad for the ICC T20 2016 Cricket World Cup as an injury replacement player. Carey was an integral member of the Southern Stars squad which won two ICC World T20 in 2012 and 2016.

Making a name for herself in the domestic circuit, she finally made her WODI debut against India Women on March 12, 2018. She was economical as far as her bowling was concerned but didn’t get the opportunity to bat.

Returning back to WBBL, she dominated with the bowl scalping 17 wickets in 15 matches, and also scored handy 146 runs in the 2017-18 WBBL season. After cementing her spot in the Australia Women XI, her recent accolades include the 2019 historic ashes win in England and the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia.
